Basically, they believe they are “bad” and act in accordance with that belief. In reality, they’re just different, which is not enough to make a value judgment, though difference alone does not account for all harmful or abusive behavior.
Honestly, that’s why I got off of #Bluesky. I was really on there just for sexual content; however, just like #Twitter, I’ve seen a rise in sexual predatory and abusive behavior.
I think it comes from internalizing negative stereotypes.

What I think is happening is that in some cases many problematic individuals have internalized the belief that being different from cultural prescriptions of how one “ought to be” is bad or shameful, so they believe they are “bad.” Ironically, they end up expressing a maladaptive version of their non-normative identity instead of a healthier one.

I am not saying deviancy is intrinsically problematic; rather, saying it’s harmful and problematic when abusive individuals exploit deviant cultures for predatory purposes. Keep in mind that empirical evidence does not show this is inherently common in all deviant or non-normative subcultures.

Abusive, predatory behavior is running rampant in some sexual and #kink social subgraphs and networks on #Bluesky, which some people perceive or discuss in that way. To be clear, I’m not expressing a value judgment about deviancy.
Deviancy alone is not sufficient to make a judgment of good or bad. It simply means not normative in a given social context.
