I have unfollowed most of the bird.makeup accounts. bird.makeup is a fantastic service, and was very useful when the ex-Twitter exodus (or should I rather call it #Xodus, haha) was just beginning.

Since then, most of the accounts seem to have either disappeared, or stopped posting completely and even deleted all their posts, leaving their accounts empty. The most notable case for me is the one of #Radiohead, where they actually announced they were leaving the platform, yet I somehow missed their announcement (link to the post on my instance). There are still some large accounts, accounts of big institutions for example (let's say @nato ) that are still active there - I'm still following these. However, accounts that are not so big, seem to have moved on.

The most obvious choice of them was #Bluesky, which was useful for me to follow various quite large bands like #PearlJam or #TheCure - as Friendica has a Bluesky plugin which allows you to scout into that network natively.

Then, some moved to #Threads or even #Mastodon (although not all accounts could be followed on the former via ActivityPub, and out of the few who moved on the latter, they chose to keep their accounts dormant after a while for some reason).

But many of them just winded down their X account, keeping their activity on other platforms where they were already established, namely on #Facebook and #Instagram most of the time.

kilogram.makeup is a tool created by the same devs as bird.makeup, with the purpose of bridging ActivityPub with Instagram. I started to use it and I'm now following dozens of these accounts, whose pages I used to "like" (a.k.a. follow) back on Facebook. I went through my follow list and unfollowed any X accounts that didn't seem to have any post left, only to follow them back on Instagram (all via the aforementioned bridges). As such, I am now at almost half the accounts I was following back then on bird.makeup, while the follow count on kilogram.makeup is now, for me, 3 pages long.

I hope the devs will put more effort into it.

All in all, together with #rssbridge, this helped me follow pretty much all I was following on Facebook and reach a nice number of over 1100 accounts followed 🙂

Who said that Fedi was too quiet?

@ianbetteridge

That thread on #BlueSky is an awful read, with memes and spammed URLs and people telling the poster to commit suicide or making unsubtle death threats. BlueSky really is like #Twitter, it seems.

And not a single one of them thought to ask why, if it is March for Billionaires, they've scheduled it for February. Not a decent dad joke amongst the lot of them.

In evaluating my presence across socials I felt I may have spread myself thin. My engagement and connections in the #poetrycommunty , #writingcommunity , and #blog #bloggingcommunity are a godsend to me across all the platforms. I've met genuinely great folks running accounts on #Fediverse #Mastodon #xformerlytwitter #mediumwriter #bluesky #substack #HiveBlockchain and #threads

If you and I are connected on one of them, I would love to connect across the others for the sake of keeping our communities strong and setting our verse, writing and other creative works free. I will most assuredly return the follow and engagement. New connections are great too, this isn't about volume, metrics, or following here— it's about community.

What I love about Mastodon is that it's really about meeting in the hashtags here and follow count or lack of is not going to limit reach.

The Arts in all forms are crucial during this time in our shared human history. Art can shine a light, share perspective, and foster increased understanding which is critically needed now.

Since 2009, X has been and is my home base/social home. The poetry and writing community people over there are gold and represent the entire ideological spectrum and yet we harmonize! Everyone gets along because we are focused on the verse.

I'm going to invest more time here as I realize unfortunately all this time I had not explored the full scope of the Fediverse. I'm also going to invest more time in the other platforms engaging my community. What this looks like during the week is an evening or two spent focused on each platform.

Our works may range across spectrums but they all matter and shine a much needed light.

The attached article from my Substack: Terrible Poet Journal speaks more to my thoughts on community.

Thanks for reading, I would love to know your thoughts.

#AI #Research for open source. I don't know if the #AT system has now recovered from shielding a lot of people since I had followed JD #Vance but I #unfollowed almost a day ago. I don't know how long it takes. Did you know that Mark #Cuban is the fourth most blocked person on #Bluesky? Hilarious.
