I use @wallabag for that now. It's great. It doesn't require kicking the audio out to a podcatcher.
Instead of RSS, I'd like to see integration with #ActivityPub. Allowing us to bookmark it here and have it show up in the reader queue. And have the reader let us boost it and favorite and reply from there. And show us the most popular articles with the people we follow.
imo we need a reader ecosystem like we have a podcast ecosystem today. we need #APnative articles.

In den letzten Jahren taucht immer häufiger ein Begriff auf, wenn es um alternative soziale Netzwerke geht: Fediverse. Doch was steckt dahinter? Wie funktioniert das zugrunde liegende Protokoll ActivityPub – und welche Plattformen gehören eigentlich dazu?
Was ist das Fediverse?
Das Wort „Fediverse“ setzt sich aus Federation (Föderation) und Universe zusammen. Gemeint ist ein Netzwerk aus vielen unabhängigen Servern (Instanzen), die miteinander kommunizieren können.
Im Gegensatz zu klassischen sozialen Netzwerken wie Facebook oder X (Twitter), die zentral betrieben werden, ist das Fediverse dezentral organisiert:
Jeder kann einen eigenen Server betreiben
Jede Instanz hat eigene Regeln und Moderation
Nutzer können instanzübergreifend miteinander interagieren
Das Ergebnis ist ein offenes, vernetztes Ökosystem statt einer einzelnen Plattform.
Das Herzstück: Wie ActivityPub funktioniert
ActivityPub ist ein offener Standard (W3C), der definiert, wie Server im Fediverse miteinander kommunizieren.
Im Kern basiert ActivityPub auf zwei Konzepten:
1. Akteure (Actors)
Jeder Nutzer, jede Gruppe oder auch ein Bot ist ein sogenannter Actor.
Beispiel:

2. Aktivitäten (Activities)
Alles, was passiert, wird als Aktivität beschrieben:
Post erstellen → Create
Folgen → Follow
Liken → Like
Teilen → Announce
Ein einfaches Beispiel
Angenommen, du bist auf Server A und folgst jemandem auf Server B:
Du klickst auf „Folgen“
Server A sendet eine Follow-Anfrage an Server B
Server B bestätigt diese
Neue Beiträge werden automatisch an Server A übertragen
Das Ganze passiert über HTTP und JSON – technisch ähnlich wie moderne Web-APIs.
Inbox & Outbox Prinzip
ActivityPub nutzt ein klares Kommunikationsmodell:
Outbox: Hier sendet ein Nutzer seine Aktivitäten
Inbox: Hier empfängt ein Nutzer Aktivitäten anderer
Jeder Server verwaltet diese Strukturen und verteilt Inhalte an andere Server.

Dezentralität: Keine zentrale Kontrolle
Interoperabilität: Verschiedene Plattformen können zusammenarbeiten
Datensouveränität: Nutzer wählen ihren Server selbst
Ausfallsicherheit: Kein Single Point of Failure

Kleines Fediverse-Wunder: Ich folge jemandem auf Mastodon, der postet auf Pixelfed Fotos, schreibt auf Writefreely Blogartikel – und ich sehe alles in meiner Timeline. Verschiedene Plattformen, ein Protokoll (ActivityPub), null Konzern dazwischen.
Das ist nicht Magie. Das ist einfach gutes Design. 🧩

What should the file-extension for ActivityPub / ActivityStreams documents be.
I.e., for application/activity+json data?
I've been using .activity
Ex: filename.activity
(The extension cannot be .json or .jsonld if you want to be able to detect it just based on the file-extension.)
What do you think?

BadgeFed 0.1.1 — Breaking change: per-domain database filenames
We are VERY excited about all the features landing in the next release! However, we’re also introducing one big breaking change—and that’s the purpose of this post. WE ENCOURAGE EVERYONE USING BADGEFED TO CREATE A DATABASE BACKUP BEFORE UPGRADING.
(GO, do it now, we will wait for you and then continue reading this post.)
Don’t worry: if you forget, chances are you won’t lose data, but recovery may be trickier. If you can, please back up first.
Summary (read before upgrading)
- Database filenames now match your domain, for example:
mydomain.db. The previous single default filename is no longer used by default. - Back up your existing SQLite file NOW. You can also download a backup from the admin portal: Admin > Database > Download Backup.
- After upgrading to 0.1.1, the app uses a per-domain database. Use the import utility to migrate from your backup—or copy your backup into the data directory and rename it to the domain-based filename.
- Prefer one shared database? Set the environment variable
SQLITE_DB_PATHto your desired (or current) filename (for example,badgefed.db).
If you already upgraded without preparing
- Your previous database was not replaced or deleted. Locate your old
badgefed.db(or backup), copy it to the data directory, and rename it to the new domain-based filename.
