Returning objects in a collection vs. IDs

In another topic (#Smithereen 0.11 is out!), @grishka@mastodon.social says this:

I have this convention where I return IDs for remote objects (obviously, how else would you authenticate them if not by fetching from the origin servers) but complete objects that are local, to save resources. IIRC I saw Mastodon do it for replies so just copied this behavior

Posting about my Mastodon Relay again, registration is open so feel free to add it (location of the relay is US East Coast). Would love to test traffic and jobs but haven't been able to with only 2 instances connected. circlewithadot.net/services/ap #mastodon #activitypub #fediverse

0.11 is out!

This one mostly focuses on groups and moderation. Groups now have discussion boards, admins can specify server rules (with translations!), moderators have more and better tools at their disposal, and users can now pin posts and export their data.

Detailed changelog here: github.com/grishka/Smithereen/

Now comes the part where I build the client API I promised everyone for so long. And the website.

Defederating servers / Blocking users from Fediverse

Hello.

I have been trying to filter out some of the foreign language posts that come from the Fediverse.
I have been using the "Filtering" to defederate instances. (In most cases, these are single-user instance bot accounts.)
Even if I add in an instance to the list, and separate it with a line break, posts from that instance will still appear.
Is it because I am using a relay?

Example: I have fairy.id listed as a server in the Filtering box.

But their posts still appear.

I've just updated my #Snac instance to version 2.83 👍 🎉
You don't know Snac? But you should: https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2
A simple, minimalistic and well documented #ActivityPub instance server written in C, no database needed, totally JavaScript-free, no cookies either, not much bullshit.

I've just published version 2.83 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:

After receiving a follow confirmation, a bunch of posts from that account are requested and inserted into the timeline as context.

Continuously failing instances are marked as broken after a given number of days (see snac(8) on how to tune this counter). Incoming activity from any of these instances resets the counter.

Fixed a nasty bug that incorrectly deleted private local posts in certain cases.

Scheduled posts can now be sent from the command line (see snac(1) for more information on how to do it).

Docker: add timezone, new examples for building and complete Swarm mode stack with Traefik (contributed by daltux).

Fixed timezone names (contributed by dharmik).

Documented the update command (contributed by xvello).

If you find #snac useful, please consider buying grunfink a coffee or contributing via LiberaPay.
