There are many reasons for wanting to deploy and host a website on your own server. This is a great option for testing features, hardening your security settings, and avoiding all the limitations (and costs) of a hosting provider.

In this article, we'll show you how to set up a clean WordPress installation on Ubuntu Server and how to tweak the basic configuration to have a fully functional website.

#WordPress #WooCommerce question:

Does anyone have a Woo commerce cart/check out plug-in that you particularly like? The default one is ugly and is not sufficiently customizable. I want to do a few really basic things, like change the "first name/last name" fields to one "full name (as it appears on your card)" field. I want to get rid of "company name" field. I want to have all the text and buttons look the same and have readable font size. I want to have product icons show up in the cart side bar and be editable during checkout.

Like, all super basic stuff that should be default or easily configurable.

Boosts for reach appreciated. Thanks!

So now I've moved on to looking at , which again looks to be about $150/year for unlimited sites (after the discounted first year)… and.. they DO support 🎉

But I’m not sure if they are the best provider for what I want to do.

And honestly I’m again wondering about static sites from .

Anyway… the good news is that I have all my sites in WP .com right now and so I can export from there into a file that can be imported into any other hosting provider.
