I've been writing a plugin for WordPress recently. Oh boy... It has been truly horrible. The docs suck; no examples. Zip.

When there is one, it's vague. One has to search blindly for everything. Stackoverflow still the best quality, ie horrible.

Some good blog posts, v few...Gord bless them!
How can WP suck so much in 2025? Who knows. I hope it gets better.

Suspect too many commercial plugins suck-up all the oxygen. Every search involves some damn plugin. Fuck off already.

I’ve been using Telex to build #WordPress plugins right in the browser, and it makes the whole process surprisingly simple.

I like the general idea. This is definitely a problem in WordPress today.

I wonder if the solution could be to better surface the command palette? The palette already allows you to quickly find what you’re looking for, without having to look through many menus. It’s also extensible so plugins can hook into and add their own menus.

It does miss 3 things though:

  1. The default view remains cluttered with all the available menus.
  2. One needs to know an obscure keyboard shortcut (Cmd+K) to access the palette.
  3. It’s not available on mobile.

Maybe we could have a better, clutter-free default view of the dashboard, with only the command palette’s main input field. What do you think?

Lovely post and reminder on how WordPress started 20 years ago. Wow. Inspiring.

> Let that sink in: the software that now powers ~43% of the web began with someone thinking out loud on their blog, and a single reply that essentially said, “yeah, I’m in.”

> So if you ever think you need a startup incubator and a 40-slide pitch deck to change the internet, remember that WordPress started as a blog post and its comment section.

Im #UhleBlog haben die #Bildunterschriften beim Artikelbild nicht mehr funktioniert. Ich hab mich zu doof angestellt, um das zu reparieren. Deshalb musste ein Plugin her. Ich frage mich aber, wieso #WordPress das nicht selbst kann.
