You can go one of two ways to escape WordPress enshittification:
1. Install Jeff Starr's 'Disable Gutenberg' plugin and disable all the blocks crap
2. Convert your WP website to ClassicPress, a fork without Gutenberg
Either is better than off-the-shelf WordPress. I manage about 40 WP/CP websites, and only use 2-3 paid plugins.

Is it me or has #Wordpress move to the #gutenberg #blocks editor coincided with an increase in the #enshittification of the platform? I have been away a while and it just seems like the new block-enabled themes are crippled unless you buy a pro plan, then you need a pro plan for your blocks editor, and a pro plan for any additional blocks you need, then a pro plan for your caching, security, image optimization, SEO, etc. etc. etc. It's always kinda' been this way but now feels way worse.
