@theogrin @AnarchoNinaWrites That being said, "#PredictionMarkets", like #Trading #Shares as well as #FOREX / #CFDs solely exist as means to skirt #GamblingBans in juristictions that ban it (i.e. #UAE, #KSA, #USA, …) because they claim it's a "high-risk, high-reward investment" when in fact for everyone who isn't holding assets longterm (and even then it's debateable!) it IS a gamble.
- I mean, despite the fact that all the #AIbros and their #AIbubble is at best an #AccountingScam that makes #Enron look legitimate, they didn't get shorted into insolvency nor jailed for that #accounting #fraud conspiracy.
The #MemeStonks / #WallStreetBets saga was a mere coincidence carefully coordinated with (not legally!) #insiders getting in early and then ramping up the price by motivating #Normies.
- It's the exception, not the norm!

@theogrin @AnarchoNinaWrites My main gripe is that the #USA has very "UNHEALTHY" relationships with everything christofascists consider 'bad', and it really shows.
- Regardless if Alcohol, drugs, sex or #gambling.
I don't do drugs nor gambling of any kind, but I think that the approach of having a safe and regulateable "bright field" is a net benefit and that more juristictions should adopt that.
Because that way there's a clear communicated accepted area with society, regulators and by threat of consequences even those offering will abide the rules.
- i.e. Having Beer & Wine legal at age 16 didn't impact alcoholism rates but we see a steady decline in alcohol consumption. And the low prices even if liquor makes it a non-starter to setup illegal distilleries.
- Decriminalizing homegrowing and weed possession saves everyone time, paperwork and defunded big swaths of organized crime who can't compete with legal growing and friends sharing.
- Licensed gambing venues and -services having limits on how much people can gamble and for how long prevents people from blowing 5 digits in a night amd allows for a point of contact to help addicts.
It's not aboit being "soft" but rather acknowledging that people are individuals.
