Columbia’s capitulation has turned a #university that was once a site of free inquiry and learning into a shadow of its former self, an-anti university, a gated security zone with electronic entry controls, a place of fear and loathing, where faculty and students are told from on high what they can teach and say, under penalty of severe sanctions. Disgracefully, all of this is being done to cover up one of the greatest crimes of this century, the ongoing genocide in #Gaza, a crime in which #Columbia’s leadership is now fully complicit.

Immerhin in einer Sache sind wir jetzt wirklich ganz besonders: Weltweit wurden nur Exporte aus vier Ländern (#Syrien, #Laos, #Myanmar und #Brasilien) mit einem höheren Zoll belegt.
Es scheint, als ob Grosskonzerne wie #Novartis und #Roche mit diesem Zoll dazu bewegt werden sollen, ihren Hauptsitz in die #USA zu verlegen. Es könnte sogar funktionieren.
Nun, ich gehe dann mal ein paar Politikern zuhören, weshalb wir das beste Land der Welt sind :)

“Although I have retired, I was scheduled to teach a large lecture course on this topic in the fall as a “special lecturer” but I cannot do so under the conditions #Columbia has accepted by capitulating to the #Trump administration in June,” Khalidi wrote.
Columbia announced last week that it would pay more than $200m in a settlement with the federal government after the White House claimed the university failed to adequately address alleged antisemitism on campus amid protests over the #Israel-#Gaza war, and threatened to pull significant funding.

@photoncollector The #USA has one of (traditionally the highest) #IncarcertationRate both absolute and espechally relative per capita with >650 per 100k population.
- At least by any verifyable metrics and guesstimates. Maybe #NorthKorea has a higher #incarceration rate but it's shocking that even by absolute numbers the #US beats the "P.R." #China and #India despite the former being a totalitarian dictatorship and the latter the most poplated nation on earth, outnumbering the US almost 4:1...

- Where most nations (i.e. #Germany) will usually sentence non-violent offenders (i.e. drug possession) to fines and resocialization (i.e. rehab) the USA slaps mandatory minimums at them for no good reason.
