One clever design choice:
Once a be_group uses permission sets, you can’t edit it via the BE interface anymore.
That prevents mixing DB settings and YAML-defined permissions. 🧩
Very nice safeguard!

It’s still not possible to go 100 % database-free.
At least one empty be_groups record must exist, which then inherits one or more permission sets.
A small step toward cleaner configuration, though! #TYPO3

🧠 Conclusion:
Implementation looks straightforward — only one additional DB field in be_users.
So: easy integration, even for existing projects! 🎉
However, migrating current groups to permission sets must still be done manually.

User groups still need to exist in the DB.
Each group inherits one or more permission sets.
That means:
➡️ Clear naming scheme
➡️ Specific, well-defined sets
So far, inheritance between sets isn’t possible.

YAML files can be created either
📁 project-wide: config/permission-sets/
or
📦 in extensions: Configuration/PermissionSets/
They can also be created + saved directly via a backend module (I only tested the project-level approach).
