Well, ext_emconf.php needed a version property for basic dependency management in non Composer managed TYPO3 installations.
If you have an idea where to put this info, I'm open to it.
Extensions that are only scoped for Composer managed TYPO3 installations can omit the ext_emconf.php for a while now.
One step at a time brought us a long way to where we are. From no Composer support at all, to almost full Composer compatibility and compliance 😅

That’s our biggest takeaway from Web Camp Venlo 2026.
Over two days, developers, marketers and digital experts from across Europe came together to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions and learn from each other.
💡 What stood out:
🦾 AI is already reshaping CMS, workflows and organizations
🧩 TYPO3 v14 is pushing UX and editorial experience forward
🌐 Relaunching the homepages of TYPO3 GmbH and the TYPO3 Association showed the reality of complex open-source projects
♿ Accessibility isn’t optional – it’s fundamental
🧡 And formats like @typo3 speed dating proved: real value comes from real conversations
🤝🏽 The common thread? Technology moves fast – but progress happens through people.
