I have been thinking about ways to hang out with you all live. I think it would be fun to spend more time together in real-time.
Here are a few ideas for a live stream I've been thinking about:
Sunday Morning Sysadmin: Live updates for the homelab and my other machines while we chat.
Blind Distro Exploration: Picking an obscure distro I have never used (like Guix or Chimera) and seeing what happens.
Bench Work: Overhead camera on the desk while I reapply thermal paste or do hardware maintenance (the Thinkpad definitely needs it).
The big question is where? Our community is built on YouTube, though I have been also mirroring videos to Peertube. I know livestreaming can mess with the algorithm, so maybe not YouTube? PeerTube is tempting and fits our values, but I worry about fragmenting the audience. So does Owncast, but might be a little more than my current infrastructor will allow with my current homelab (I can get into details if you wish) and we could explore expanding that if necessary. Twitch is an option, but the culture there often feels like a mismatch for what we are doing, but maybe we should try to change them from theinside?
Not promising anything, just wanted to know if anyone had opinions.
What do you all think? Stay on YouTube for live streams, go to Twitch, or try a Fediverse alternative?
