#Twitch #2K beta and #ultrawide streaming. I've finally settled on 2640x1200 as the resolution to stream at, for a variety of reasons.
Aspect ratio. 21:9 would seem to be the obvious choice as that's the resolution of fullscreen video on a typical desktop ultrawide monitor, but Twitch add chatboxes, channel list etc. I tried a few different resolutions and averaged around 20.6:9 - 20.8:9.
But there's phones. The iPhone 16 is 19.5:9, some recent androids are 20:9 I've been told Sony do a 21:9 phone. Averaging out anything around 20:9 should be a good allrounder.
The native res of my monitor is 3840x1200 and I've decided to just crop the sides and not scale, so it needs to be a 1200p resolution.
Next I needed to consider the other resolutions you get in Enhanced broadcast, and ideally try to have X and Y res that are both multiples of 16 as this is optional for H.264 and H.265.
2640x1200@60 has an aspect ratio of 19.8:9 and gets me 1584x720&60, 1056x480@60 792x360@30 & 352x160@30. All of these except for 360 are divisible by 16.
It also means that the 720p bitrate is ~7500 kbps, and 3500kbps for 480p. Each of these resolutions looks crisp and clear with none of the muddy encoding artifacts you normally see in Twitch streams of FFXIV etc.
2640x1200 is 3.17MP compared to 3.66MP for the official 2k res of 2560x1200 so given the same bitrate it should look slightly better than twitch's recommended encoding. It certainly won't look worse.
Open to suggestions, of course!
