I've used UpScrolled before, and using Threads gives a very similar feel to that.
I really wish UpScrolled was in the Fediverse. It's a beautiful social network.

Despite being defederated from the vast majority of the Fediverse and literally being the reason on why stuff like the Anti Meta Fedi Pact exists (https://fedipact.online/), there are some instances that do let Threads federate with them. One of them is vmst.io!

I have a feeling Meta did this intentionally to scour out more data from elsewhere on the Internet (aka the Fediverse) because it just wasn't enough for them, as usual and used the universal goodwill of "connecting" people - while still keeping them ignorant about the fact that the Fediverse, even exists in the first place.
But also to actually try to see our general spirits on whether we will be welcoming with their network (hint: we weren't :D)

I still see new signups to Threads, but literally 90% of the accounts are DEAD.
There's a plethora of AI generated posts, personas as well as general fear mongering about stuff that's clearly stupid, and not true.
The Epstein Files and general conspiracy theory batshit is the stuff that's most prominent over there, if I am to ignore the AI generated women that are clearly looking for sexual attention.

Я створив бекап для улюбленої (але нелюбимої водночас) платформи #Threads, бо там реально неможливо емігрувати без запар і костилів, включно з усіма постами й даними. Я відчуваю дуже сильну прихильність до мастодону й федіверсу, бо він не лагає (як твітер) і не шпигує за мною (як фейсбук), хоч тут все трохи не алгоритмічно :))

Threads doesn't feel like the real deal, or even something one would use to get introduced to the Fediverse.
It feels like a fake plug-on on top of their text version of Instagram, something that's super centralized.
Literally the only reason they wanted to create something like this, is to capitalize from the great X-odus.

I have no idea how long this platform will last, but as long as it is, and might be staying, let's cherish it. Expecting/hoping for a downfall within ~5 years.
I've been using Threads since 15th of March, 2026, almost at the same time I created the @kaifi@deadinsi.de account, and I did try this out another time when it was first made. I deleted that previous account, but I decided to try Threads out again recently.
