People make noise about #socialMedia platforms being built to addict people. But it’s important to recognise that ALL entertainment platforms are built to addict. To give people good experiences (dopamine) and come back for more. Streaming services, video games, physical games, music platforms and even those books that Mastodonians love.
We can’t punish a service for creating that engaging feedback loop. We can instead consider cases of intended harm. Which may not be by the actual platform.
