Act Now to Stop #California ’s Paternalistic & #Privacy -Destroying #SocialMedia Ban

That means, all Californians would be required to submit highly sensitive gov-issued ID or #biometric info to private companies simply to participate in the modern public square. In the name of “safety,” this bill would destroy online #anonymity , expose sensitive personal data to #breach & abuse, & replace parental decision-making with state-mandated #censorship

NHL playoffs: Fans are following the games — and the WAGs
Interest in wives and girlfriends of professional athletes — known as "WAGs" — is a global phenomenon, across sports from hockey to soccer to F1 racing. Experts say social media has created opportunities for WAGs to build their own brands and expand their influence — and thus, create names for themselves in their own right.

“The System Is Rigged: Power, Labour, and the Media Network Coverup of the Story Tying Starmer And Mandelson”

by Jonathan Cook on Substack

@BBCRadio4

@thetimes

“The deeply troubling backstory to Starmer's political evolution is yet to be told by the establishment media. As critical as they currently are of his treatment of Mandelson, the media are telling only half the story—the surface part.

The prime minister's political subservience and vulnerability to Mandelson—why Starmer was determined to promote him to the post of ambassador despite the all-too-conspicuous dangers—have gone largely unexamined by the media”

Well worth a read & please boost!!

“Why Trump’s Iran Ceasefire May Not Hold — According to the Headlines Themselves: A Saturday afternoon experiment”

by Thomas Karat on Substack

“I’ve spent the last eight months building something — a platform that reads what governments and major media outlets say, every day, and tries to detect the shape of the rhetoric underneath”

[..]

“The platform isn’t public yet. But it’s been running long enough to have collected something interesting: roughly 150,000 analysed headlines from the last two months, sitting in a database”

[..]

“So this Saturday afternoon, I decided to look. No plan, no agenda — just to see whether two months of data could already tell us something we didn’t already know.

The answer turned out to be yes”

@hikingdude LOL ! I didn't read it before till I bumped into it earlier on, but what Mat relates in that short blog post was nicely captured as well by that other write-up by the late Esko Kilpi before went rogue in 2015.

Good times! 😍👍🏻

@hikingdude I know, right? Reading through that article and the original piece 👉🏻 matduggan.com/boy-i-was-wrong- by @matdevdug reaffirmed me I made the right choice deleting my entire former online life back in December 2025 and stick around with as my go-to of choice as it was originally intended.

It reminded me of this fab read 👉🏻 wtfeconomy.com/conversations-a by the late Esko Kilpi from 11 years ago: "Conversations and narratives are the new documents" 👨🏻‍🍳💋

Another noteworthy quote from that article worth while remembering:

"The difference from corporate social media comes down to incentive structures. Platforms designed around narcissism and parasocial relationships produce content optimized for engagement. A federated network with no central owner produces something closer to actual knowledge-sharing, because nobody profits from making it addictive" 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

New Saturday thought is up. It's about the gap between knowing exactly how social media manipulates you and being unable to stop it working anyway. Also about the particular humiliation of being a self-aware user who still falls for it. Which, if you're reading this here, you'll probably recognise.
