@raymierussell one of the beautiful things about a globally accessible public platform is that its useful for things like politics, media and others that smaller closed systems are not.
Should local councils all run their own Mastodon instances? Maybe, but that would be a horrible cost and effort that seems hard to justify.
Several times we posted about things on Twitter and had companies immediately get in touch and fix things for us, including Google, Kitchenaid, and others.
