Until a few months ago, my personal account never had widely shared posts. The @leavex campaign account did, but it became more often since its recent growth of followers.
I noticed that most of the trending posts had bots sharing them. Sometimes when my posts reached 100 shares, 20% of them were from bots.
There is a lot of resistance towards algorithms in this space, which I believe is due to the harm caused by unethical ones on big tech social media.
But aren't bots a type of algorithm that increases the likelihood of a post trending by having accounts with more followers? Are those who criticize algorithms other than reverse chronological order okay with that?
I believe it's possible to have good algorithms on the Fediverse. For example, I use the catch-up feature of @phanpy from time to time, mainly when I haven't checked social media for days.

As a privacy advocate, I consider phones and computers an extension of human thought and conscience. Some of us even keep our diaries on our devices.
That said, the sentiment I often encounter is that we hand over our devices at the demand of our partners if we "have nothing to hide". I'm not so sure I agree with this.
A private conversation is supposed to remain private . I trust my partner 100% and will never demand their device.
