The recent Ofcom report into the changing use of #SocialMedia in the #UK highlights the decline in engagement and the rise of more passive consumption.
I ways felt that social media throttled blogs and RSS readers and some people just want to surf info and things that amuse them.
They don't always want to take part especially on sites with a follower heirachy.
Also sites that get large user bases eventually kill engagement because the unfiltered firehose just puts people off and because corp sites need engagement their algorithms eventually just tire people out so people end up dipping in occasionally just to preserve their sanity.
