It is certain that western media has shaped the opinions of the public on many issues and places, including Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, Russia, China - places where input from the other side is scare or entirely lacking. It has told us what to think, and has been successful.
It has failed WRT Palestine, because here information from the other side (Palestine) has been relatively abundant, thanks to social media, which the elites cannot control.

However, these days, there is a significant other element: social media, which is far more driven by people, not corporations. That's why Israeli propaganda has failed so badly, since Palestinians have gotten their voices out of Gaza directly.
