I feel so fortunate to have lived through the IRC bouncer era before smartphones. Basically, you had to be sitting at an actual computer and have an elaborate BNC system set up to read the backlogs, because I truly believe that never having to log off and the ability to seamlessly move between devices without having to detach and attach a client—like back in the #IRC PuTTY days—is really rotting people's brains.
I refuse to have any chat platform on my phone.
