Took a little while, but my "obsolete" 14yo #MacMini is now running #Linux #Ubuntu Server! #Shinobi is installed as a standalone and #Jellyfin in a #Docker container. Once my 1st #RTSP cam arrives I'll add it and start experimenting, but for the time being everything seems to be working well thru the web UIs.

I also ordered a small SSD for my #RaspberryPi where #HomeAssistant is running, and a larger #SATA drive for #Shinobi, as well as a #UPS.

Still need to fix some #HA integrations 🙃

Wofür man neuere Geräte benötigt:
- Grafik- und Videobearbeitung
- Spiele (3D und/oder Online)
- Programmierung

On the PS2, network I/O isn't something games are expecting. OPL adds extraneous code to intercept R/W operations and that has consequences.

The game might get too fast or too slow reads, maybe competing for resources at unfortunate times.

For that OPL gives you "modes" — e.g. "Mode 2" makes reads synchronous. A given combination of modes may fix or cause issues, depending on the game and your setup. More trial-and-error... 😕

Even if SMB is the best option to run games on my PS2, tuning it is still a dark art. 🧙‍♂️

One of the issues is getting the best performance out of Samba given the limitations of SMBv1 and the Pi hardware, where the ethernet interface hangs off USB.

There's a lot of tuning suggestions out there, often without any explanation. After a lot of trial-and-error, this what I got:

It even fixes FMV stuttering in WipEout Fusion... 👏

Behold, this is my king of junk boxes, a plywood enclosure held together only by staples and hot glue, containing 10 commodity SSD drives and a USB 3 HUB, all forming a 4TB data array of mergerfs on top of snapraid.

Endlessly proud of how it turned out. So far the temperature and SMART data are good.

On this day, in 2013, I booted a Pi for the first time. At the time, they were not available in Canada. I had to order from Newark US and pay customs. I'm pretty sure not many Canadians had heard of the Raspberry Pi at that time.
