Eric Nam's back with a tool to stream inertial measurement unit data over Wi-Fi on an ESP32-S3, then process it for neat visualisations - which play back in real time, but only from a recording not as-it-captures.

So I got the #Python venv thing working to avoid the big scary THOU SHALT NOT PASS!! (UNLESS YOU REALLY WANT TO) warnings.

Was much less hassle than I thought in the end - just point to the right instance of python3, and the modules find themselves.

Something occurred to me... rather than putting the management onus on the individual user, shouldn't it be the SYSTEM that is isolated?

It doesn't matter *that* much if you have to scramble for the latest version of a package used by your script because some twonk made a breaking change in a dependency, but the system infrastructure absolutely needs to be locked/distro-package-maintained.

Just a thought.

I just completed "Secret Entrance" - Day 1 - Advent of Code 2025

adventofcode.com/2025/day/1

I decided to use python again because it's the language I know best and I'm lazy. That said, I did get to try out some new things like using a dataclass and the match statement. A bit overkill, but it was a fun brain teaser as I sipped my morning coffee.

0.4.0 of django-new is released. 🚀

Now with interactive mode! ✨

`uvx django-new` to step through prompts to create a new #Django application.

It also now shows the tree structure of all of the folders and files that were created at the end of process.

Both features thanks to the brilliant `rich` from @willmcgugan.

I am so excited for another #AdventOfCide (adventofcode.com/2025/). I never get tired of writing code to solve new and different problems. What an amazing amount of work Eric Wastl puts into this. What an amazing thing he creates … year after year after year.

Thank you, Eric!

This year my plan is to solve in both #Python and #Rust. I want to do them all (a tall order even though Eric is cutting back). i want my work to be exemplary: something others might learn from. I want to make sure I don’t short-change my other responsibilities by spending too much time on this. And I have one final issue: by the time evening roles around, I suck. I need to figure out what the best time of day is to squeeze this in!
