Content warning:Apprenticeship update

I found out today that the apprenticeship I'm on doesn't do C++ as a language, but C#. And that's a language that my work actually uses! I may have to move over to C# to make it more relevant for work (although I'd still prefer python).

Apparently, work use C# to code their backend. What else is it used for please? I know it was created for/by MS, so I'm guessing it's mostly used in Windows environments?

#Astronomy #sundials
A plane refraction #sundial, a rare kind of sundials. A 5cm thick plexiglas (acrylic glass) block, a small washer on top of it. The washer's shadow tells solar time on the drawing at the bottom.

It also tells the current position of the subsolar point on the map, i.e. the place where the Sun is directly overhead.
It took me some time to write the #Python script which draws the hour lines and the map... Thank you matplotlib, numpy, geopandas! Now I can customize refractive index, thickness, width, longitude, latitude. Work in progress.
Light is refracted (bent) by the acrylic glass, even when it's grazing on the surface, so the shadow always stays inside a limited circle. Due to its refractive index, the block has to be about twice as wide as it is thick. I'd love to make a 20cm wide sundial, but I'd need a 10cm thick block...

@zeitverschreib If you want to learn any just to do that conversion task?
None.

In any other case... I'd bet on both.
is great for final software where productivity matters as well as quality.
is great for some one liners in the Python shell for quick and dirty solutions, you can write bigger tools as well, but I found quickly becomes more efficient tool of choice as it's much harder to leave tiny mistakes into the run time.

The Documentary was awesome, and a great look at the history of the language

If you're eager for more, and a look at the future of the language and its uses, you should plan on joining @pyconafrica's Friends Of PyCon Africa Live stream: za.pycon.org/friends-of-pycon-

It's going to be a great time!
