If you mean "setting up the search on your instance" is in regards to like, instance admins, that's yet another barrier. Unless I'm misunderstanding you, which if I am, please correct me on what you mean by this.
Going back to the Blender example... I used Sepia Search and in the past year, only about 10 pages of Blender content appeared when searching "Blender," even when including more broad tags like #3d, #b3d, #3rdart, etc. and a good chunk of that content is just... development VODs by the same channel. There's only a few tutorials/informative videos from only about 3-5 channels. Like, this is in the span of an entire year, mind you. Like, someone who's specifically interested in educational Blender content like tutorials probably would blow through this repository in a day or less, then would be left with nothing for weeks or even months.
And that's just #Blender. If I try something like "Frutiger Aero," there are literally zero results for the past year, across all public instances. That's not comforting, given the popularity of the aesthetic.
This is what I mean by it being more difficult to transition. No amount of increased discoverability is going to solve this problem, as it doesn't matter how wide your net is when there's nothing to catch under it. I'm not saying we need to match the content throughput of #Youtube, but it needs to be better than this, and this is why I wish more content creators used #PeerTube as a backup place to upload the videos. It could be the perfect place to direct viewers in case a videos gets taken down.
And regarding my server admin... yeah, they're not really active and the instance here has been left in a stagnant state with no-one new being allowed to join. I'm not sure how receptive they'd be to this or even available to consider it.

Astro Bot is one of my favorite games of all time. As someone who grew up with PlayStation and 3D Platformers, it does everything so perfectly, and is such a love letter to the genre, that you can't help but love it. But its mechanics are also rock solid. This is as close to a perfect game as we're ever going to see.

@Eeveecraft @Nezchan Not sure of the quality of the results but I stopped scrolling after about a minute and uncountable pages. Yeah - a lot of this is the "official" Blender channel but there does appear to be quite a bit more. Hopefully you can find something new!
I find that spending time setting up the search on your instance leads to better results pretty quickly. It is something that could be better and more intuitive but discoverability is possible and is improving the more servers talk to each other. #PeerTube
Also, sorry if this is obvious, but sharing when you do find a channel you like is key in the world of no-algorithms.
I know Blender was just an example but I like to test how well I am doing with my server. Talk to your server admin - maybe they are open to suggestions for server follows and search engine settings?
It is early days but I am getting more and more out of PeerTube all the time.
