Up at 4am, the old man drags his feet to the toilet, after a brief fart and nothing more, he stumbles to make his coffee, hands shaking, body in pain, exhausted from another sleepless night, with foggy vision he pours a cup spills a bit, shuffles out the door, the morning is dark warm and moist, he takes a sip, 5:30 comes and puppies wake screeching to be let out, he shuffles off next door to air the little rascals full of energy he no longer has, after a few moments back in their kennels whining with hunger, his coffee begins to work, back into his cave to release some pressure, 6 am and the pups are yelling feed us now, back across the yard he goes, prepares their food puts in their pen outside, 4 in tow on leads tangled as they go, happy to eat, the old man back to feed the big dogs and clean the pups mess from last night, 1 more day one more night one more morning to go, the doggies owners will be home, watching the puppies play, with vigor and energy he no longer has, he knows with each day as they all get stronger he will get weaker, the cycle of life can be such a fright;
