Germany's Sovereign Tech Agency opened applications Wednesday for the Sovereign Tech Standards network. Up to ten open-source maintainers will receive EUR 4,800 to 5,200 a month. Roughly ten hours a week of IETF, W3C, and ISO work. Mid-June 2026 through June 2027. Standards work was unfunded time on top of paid maintenance. I have watched maintainers I respect burn out on exactly this. A government line item priced ten of those positions.
