While the EU's Cyber Resilience Act does not directly impact open-source projects, it may affect distributors that offer support and services. Let's hope that it doesn't put an end to games and non-business software in repositories.

@justinf in some sense yes, but the #GPL focuses on freedom for the users of the software to run, modify, share the software, study the source code etc. And it prevents others from restricting that freedom by making more restrictive derivatives (#copyleft). It's not about the freedom for other developers to use the code for whatever they want, which seems to be the focus of the MIT license and some others. That's an important distinction IMO

Open source is a civic imperative, not just a tech choice. It hands power back to people — transparency that prevents surveillance and corruption, freedom from corporate gatekeepers, and the ability to fix what’s broken instead of waiting for permission. Societies that embrace open source cut costs, harden security through mass peer review, and ignite waves of local innovation and jobs. It levels the playing field so citizens everywhere can learn, build, and defend their digital rights. Losing open source is losing democratic control of our infrastructure. Defend it.🛡️

Four finished and then discarded drafts in. With a red light interrogation-room style I sit in the floor, after having asked the artist for a drawing of a fish with my face (without a clear motivation yet for her, as I have my reasoning clear).

The talk I’ll be giving this year at Rust China Conf will be legendary and will be talked about for the next 5-10 minutes.
