Linux adoption in Europe has skyrocketed this month! For the first time ever, it went from ~4.50% to 6.15%, even higher than in the US' 5.25% (according to StatCounter). I think more and more people want to move to a less "controlled" OS.

Will the continued scraping of #AI materials cause a substantial disruption to open source publishing of software? I guess not.

Starting a new website called Mad Muon at madmuon.com dedicated to exploring the virtues and possibilities offered by small, comprehensible, solutions.

Not much is up yet, except a Vim page, an RSS feed and the code itself. But it's a start 🙂

And: as I discussed in harihareswara.net/posts/2021/w , different project types likely need forges with different structures and features. True in #opensource and elsewhere.

To all those folk who want to move from #github given the re-org; I can recommend @forgejo , or @Codeberg if you’d prefer not to self host your #opensource projects.

I migrated a bunch of stuff from GH to a self-hosted #Forgejo instance running in one of @hetzner‘s datacenters, and it showed itself to be production ready. It handled our actions and multi-gb #monorepo, amongst other things, with ease on a ~17EUR/month central VPS, and a few CI servers, which was less than our GitHub spend.
