@kattekrab #opensource has been corporatized, monetized, and leveraged in service of enabling FAANG to exist. The EU's recent calls for establishing digital sovereignty from US-based cloud providers is telling. A lot of old #OSS luminaries have gone quiet and nobody's replaced them. Non-corporate OSS needs new voices to carry the torch.

I have a couple of #Debian Trixie laptops (with Intel AX 210 M.2 wifi cards, which work by default), and occasionally I have need of using USB wifi dongles as well. One dongle required me to install the package "firmware-mediatek", and the other required the package "firmware-realtek". These aren't included in a default install.

Do events still matter in #OpenSource ?

I wrote this in late 2019.
The before times.

A lot has changed. Is this view still valid?

I was going to make a subsonic client, but I see Sublim Music is eol a couple years ago. I'm going to peek at the codebase and see what it would take to get it all up to snuff. If it's not bad, I may fork it instead. We don't always have to reinvent the wheel.
