I think its VERY feasible to have a great experience with GrapheneOS without installing Google Play Services. Yes, it does take some work to setup, and its not for everyone.
But there are SO many great open source apps out there now. Apps can be installed directly from the developers site using Obtainium. This way, Zero DRM, and no Google funny business.
Sure, F-Droid is there too if you need some discovery.
As for financial sites, I just use Vanadium.
