@nixCraft I recently stumbled across WINUX by @richdevine, and honestly? It might be the perfect bridge for Windows 11 holdouts who are curious about Linux but hesitant to make the jump.
WINUX review Windows Central https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/i-tried-winux-promising-a-windows-11-experience-on-linux really nails it—it looks and feels exactly like Windows 11, but runs natively on Linux. For folks who love the UI, this could be a game-changer.
Of course, de-bloating Windows with tools like Flyby11, Tiny11, or Win11Debloat is great for those stuck on corporate machines. But if you can switch? WINUX lets you keep the familiarity of Windows while actually owning your OS. And let’s be real—once people see how smooth and customizable Linux can be, they might never look back.
Has anyone here tried WINUX yet? I’d love to hear if you’ve convinced a "Windows-only" friend to give it a shot! 😊

Agree, Vivaldi has a very nice UX. I enjoy using it on my workstation.
However, I have reasons to evaluate and use different browsers for different uses. Of those reasons how fully #OpenSource is a metric.
Working on a new level!

Just to make it clear:
1. #Mir was "not invented here" syndrome
2. so was #Unity
3. and #snaps is #VendorLockIn
Now, with their new dual licensed #Rust based #userland stack, methinks I won't be trying it out.
I want #Free #Libre #OpenSource #Software, and I want it as a matter of #security, #autonomy and #privacy.
I won't be lead down a garden path, straight into a #WalledGarden. We're supposed to get out of those, not back in.
I'm already at #WarwickUni ready for the #RSECon25 week!! This year we've got almost a full day on #OpenSource with @openuk, @curioss, @SoftwareSaved, @turingway and much more!!
Talking about #FOSS, how are you tracking which sessions to go to? If you're on #android, I recommend you get #Gigitty (https://gaa.st/giggity) and add the RSECon schedule (at https://david.ps/sched_ics2giggity/rsecon25.xml)
Some cool things:
- You can hide sessions you don't care to make it less overwhelming
- same app many many conferences
Despite my foss journey being very young - I only started digging and liberating myself this april -, I've gotten very far and never wanna turn back anymore. All started with my turn from Youtube and the like to RSS. It still boggles my mind on how much foss software I've already relied on without knowing: VLC Mediaplayer, Firefox, LibreOffice, Gimp, Signal, Seal, Drip, …
And now, that Google aims to heighten the barrier of entry into the foss world by soon prohibiting non-gplay installations, the small world I built for myself (on my phone, ignoring my now Linux PC) seems to fade as quickly as it grew. I am certain, that if given no other choice, I will turn to another operating system like LineageOS. But for me, a big part of the fun of this foss movement, was spreading the message around to my not so tech-savvy friends. With a higher barrier of entry, they are less likely to follow - and I fear I will drift apart. I'm already alienated by people casually using big-tech spyware in their day-to-day and feel urged to comment on it.
I know I can't save everyone… But the foss movement is an increasingly important part of antifascism. How can I spread the antifascist message of foss to like-minded people who are afraid of using a terminal? How will I go about it, once (if) this foss world is shut out even more on android? (for Linux, I at least have the endof10.org campaign)
