I remember these issues with the GNOME Desktop Environment
I didn't realize that they were in fact initiated with or by GTK going to V2.0 of Nautilus. I was quite disappointed then, but I realized years later, that there's a camp of people who need that kind of Desktop Environment
It's one of the reasons why I stopped using GNOME alongside KDE and Enlightenment
For me Enlightenment is still wonderfully beautiful. Luckily KDE can still be tuned all the way down to the pixel
