I had a good time at #HacktionLab in #Nottingham

On Friday there was an intro and discussion to consciousness, a discussion about #enshittification, and then a jam session to finish the first night.

On Saturday, sadly I missed the talk about Linux audio, but caught the sessions about #PermaComputing and a slightly tongue-in-cheek "Anarcho-Primitivist Computer Club", the theory of music scales (which I didn't really understand due to my lack of musical ability), and then a great talk about building an #LiFePo4 battery pack and #SolarPV charging system for a house boat.
There was another jam session with some locals to finish which was nice.

Today, I went back for a nice breakfast and discussions about the next HacktionLab, which might be happening again next year.

Join the mailing list to keep an eye out for the next one: lists.aktivix.org/mailman/list - it will probably be in the same place next time.

I'm thinking about how people would share culture when streaming services break down. Or things that are too niche for these services. There must be a method that works online and is safe for everyone.
(Or is the best way of distributing things still to meet physically and copying file. That's what people did in the 2000s at "LAN parties".)

How would people transfer content that they might not want to share publicly, but that is generally "low risk"?
Let's say someone has a file of some copyrighted movie from 1985 on their disk and wants to share it with me. They have no specific tools, just an "ordinary PC". Also they are "just a friendly stranger", so probably no one will want to exchange any sensitive credentials to share the file... Also, they might not want to torrent it.

First test of the SAIR (Slackware AArch64 Installer Respin) tool completed 🎉

Built a variant of the Slackware AArch64 Installer using the Raspberry Pi kernel fork and installed it onto an RPi4. Works!

This is a stepping stone towards Raspberry Pi 5 support in Slackware. Starting on the Pi 4 since I don’t yet have a 5 in hand, but the groundwork is now in place.

Took my Homebrew package manager upgrade script and rewrote it in #GoLang from #Perl. Way simpler to share as a binary, and I got a crash course in error handling and type safety along the way. Fun little #PlatformEngineering experiment. #DevOps #SoftwareEngineering #OpenSource
