Raspberry Pi OS 6.2 is out — the second update to the Trixie-based release.
The headline change: passwordless sudo is now disabled by default on fresh installations. Running a sudo command will prompt for your account password. A 5-minute grace period applies after a successful entry.
Existing installs are not affected. To revert, toggle the Admin Password switch in Control Centre or use raspi-config.

The patch around the rot is cheap this quarter and expensive next year. Linus Torvalds opened Linux 7.1 by rejecting two patches that proved the rule. One sped up the audit subsystem on high core count servers. The other added a Kconfig option to panic on RCU stalls. Both rejected. The audit code is historically broken, and a fast patch around a bad abstraction makes it harder to repair. I've maintained legacy subsystems. Day one is when the discount window closes.

The #school my son attends to gets new devices from the state of #Niedersachsen. The devices are a collection of #iOS, #windows and #chromeos.
His school - until know - promoted and supported using #linux and #opensource.
Now it is completely unclear whether it will be possible to use and support these devices with linux.

Eine Schule in #Niedersachsen hat ein #Linuxfirst-Konzept. #DigitaleSouveränität, keine #Lizenzkosten, keine Bedenken beim #Datenschutz.
Das Land verkündet, dass es den Schulen Endgeräte zur Verfügung stellt:
- Android-Tablet
- iOS-Tablet
- Windows-Notebook
- ChromeOS-Notebook
Für alle angebotenen Geräte ist unklar, ob sich das Konzept mit #OpenSource an der Schule mit den vorhandenen Mitteln weiter betreiben lässt, weil unklar ist, ob sich auf den Geräten Linux mit vertretbarem Aufwand installieren lässt.
Mein Sohn geht auf die Schule - mitunter weil er dort mit OpenSource und ohne Überwachung lernen kann.
