Anyone have suggestions for an #OpenSource #irc client for #iOS and/or #iPadOS? My mastodon client is open source, and I’m hoping to have the same with irc.

#FOSS #PleaseBoost and Thank you for any suggestions!

RE: infosec.exchange/@mattburgess/

I’m not going to fault Matt Burgess for relying on Google — most people do it without thinking. What they shared is actually a pretty clear example of the knee-jerk reaction many people have: they search quickly, skim results, and assume they’ve got the full picture.

They seem to have done something similar when choosing Proton as well. I’m not going to fault them there either, because Proton’s marketing is effective and strongly emphasizes its identity as a European company based in Switzerland. However, if you read their Terms of Service, you’ll notice they reference only 2 jurisdictions: Switzerland and the United States.

If you want to share resources about products and services outside U.S. jurisdiction, it’s important to dig a bit deeper.

I maintain a list hosted on Codeberg — an alternative to GitHub and GitLab based in Germany (see URL below).

There are many alternatives to Google Drive and Proton Drive outside U.S. jurisdiction.

"Pagefind does great client-side search

I post more and more content on my website. What was visible at glance then is now more difficult to look for. I wanted to implement search, but it is a static website. It means that everything is built once, and then published somewhere as final, immutable pages. I can’t send a request for search and get results in return.
Or that’s what I thought! Pagefind is a neat javascript library that does two things:

It produces an index of the content right after building the static site.
It provides 2 web components to insert in my pages: <pagefind-modal> that is the search modal itself, hidden by default, and <pagefind-modal-trigger> that looks like a search field and opens the modal.

The pagefind-modal component looks up the index when the user types a request. The index is a static file, so there is not need for a backend that processes queries. Of course this only works for basic queries, but it’s a great rool already!

Pagefind is also easy to customize via a list of CSS variables. Adding it to this website was very straightforward."
