Redmonk's two-year retrospective and a Percona survey put numbers on the Valkey fork. AWS ElastiCache, Google Memorystore, and Akamai default new instances to Valkey; Redis is explicit opt-in. Valkey 8.1 cuts memory footprint over 20 percent. AWS reports up to 36 percent cost reduction. 75 percent of Redis users are testing or adopted. I have watched relicense-as-monetization for a decade. Vendor loses the commons. Clouds keep the customers.
