I just switched back from semaphore (and pinafore before that) to the official web frontend of my #mastodon instance.
The multi column view was really irritating and I clicked through the settings until I finally found the checkbox to turn *off* the advanced user interface.
Ah... Bliss!
Now how do I get rid of the sidebars left and right? I guess I can live with those for now.
