This observation is inspired by a post from astronomer Daniel Fischer @cosmos4u (https://scicomm.xyz/@cosmos4u/115209967824042242) who writes:
"...what about longterm stability? Will important and maybe even influential #Mastodon posts be still around in 5, 10, 50 years? On much-despised X - or FB - those from 10+ years ago are still around (if you know the URLs)."
Yes, old posts on X are still around, but there is no guarantee that they will remains so. This is entirely at the whim of the then current owner.

I run an #mastodon instance on v4.2.24 and am looking forward to upgrading to the latest 4.5 release (when it's GA). Can anyone suggest the "easiest" way to migrate from 4.2.24 to the latest 4.4.x?
Should I migrate 4.2.24 -> 4.3.0 -> 4.4.0... then 4.5.0 when avail? Or can I skip 4.3.x and go straight to 4.4.x? Or do I need to determine and upgrade to every minor release along the chain? 😟
Looking for advice on a good way to get up-to-date in prep for the latest. 👍

PSA: die Updateanleitung für #Mastodon, welche in der heutigen Github-Mail zum 4.4.4 Release enthalten ist, ist unvollständig! ⚠️
Ein Blick auf die Github-Seite liefert noch ein yarn install --immutable zutage. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.4.4
Hält den Installationsprozess natürlich nicht davon ab, danach weiterhin fehlzuschlagen. Ein erneutes Ausführen des precompile Schrittes mag dann aber helfen.
Mastodon-Updates bleiben also weiterhin ein Quell purer Freude… 😤

Looks like #Mastodon broke another piece of compatibility with the wider fediverse, or at least to #GoActivityPub services.
When I search for posts created by #ONI, there are no results shown despite the post existing, and Mastodon actually fetching the ActivityPub document correctly (at least according to my logs). This used to work until recently (my instance has just updated to the latest version). Sigh.
