None of my relatives (some older, some much younger) had heard of it (Mastodon).

One of the things I like best about Mastodon is that there are far fewer people looking for an excuse to put others down. I mean, other people on Mastodon. Not people in general, particularly if Trump is considered a person.
On Reddit you have to worry about any number of assholes who are just panting with lust to sneer at people and their posts. It's like they have to prop up their egos by putting others down. There's some of that on Lemmy, too. Mastodon, far less so. And of course you can always block or mute those people. But it's a lot less work on Mastodon!

I have seen no evidence to disprove my conjecture that 100% of 0 follower begs for money from strangers, whose posts appear in our private mentions, are scammers. The Block button is here for a reason.

Does anyone know a way to find out what hashtags are being used on Mastodon? It seems to me that that would be helpful information! Otherwise I just have to guess which hashtags would be best to reach the right audience.
I'm following a bot that lists trending hashtags for the day, but it's for a specific server that's not even mine. And I don't want to chase the topic(s) of the day; I just want to be able to find the RIGHT hashtags to use for my posts!
