That's a good question. Rather than creating an alternative to #LinkedIn and #Xing, wouldn't it be better to try to make Xing part of the #Fediverse
Starting a new professional network requires much more effort than collaborating with a company with an established network, if they are open to it. Although LinkedIn seems to be the de facto space for professional contacts, even in Germany, building a network from scratch is always difficult.

The battle to delete my LinkedIn account continues. I sent an email to legal@linkedin.com today (not sure if it's an actual address, but at least it didn't bounce) and I submitted another ticket through the privacy policy form. They closed my previous ticket after I told them I wouldn't submit any identification documents due to my own personal IT security policy. So yeah, that's where we stand.

Soo. Mein LinkedIn-Konto ist erst einmal Geschichte. Sollte ich es irgendwann in ferner Zukunft doch als sinnvoll erachten dort ein Konto zu haben, bspw. in Ermangelung einer guten freien Alternative, kann sich das dann ggf. nochmal ändern.
Gerade im Kontext der Softwareentwicklung, in der ich ja beruflich nun mal unterwegs bin, war LinkedIn seit dem Beginn des KI Hypes für mich aber ein absolut giftiger Katalysator für einige, eher problematischere, Typen von Menschen.
Nicht alles war schlecht, denn ich hatte da früher auch wirklich gute Kontakte und vor einigen Jahren habe ich ja sogar meine aktuelle Arbeit darüber gefunden.
Da ich aber alle wirklich wichtigen Kontakte von dort auch noch einmal auf anderen Plattformen habe, fiel der Abschied nicht mehr schwer.

The totally legal movie site I visit from time to time clogs up my RAM and heats up the CPU like crazy. They likely mine crypto or run botnets on my machine when I’m not looking.
#LinkedIn heats and clogs things up the same. Except it doesn’t even do anything practical, merely showing a simple Web UI. Pathetic.

I recently ended a contract to write copy for a large pediatric research network (ended is probably not accurate... the current government administration gutted funding), and though I have other clients, I wanted to see what other writing jobs were out there. I started with #LinkedIn and was really disappointed by the 3.3% application-to-interview rate on that platform. I can't say I have ever really used it for networking, but I can tell you that only 3.3% rate of job seekers submitting a resume/application on that platform resulting in an interview is REALLY, REALLY bad. Why do people rely on that platform to look for work? #Writing #Copywriting #Advertising #Marketing #JobSearch
