In the new multi-channel social engineering landscape, LinkedIn is one of the main breeding grounds for phishing attacks. This article, even if biased given its sponsor, gives a good overview of the risks.

After my #LinkedIn account got hijacked yesterday, I have been quite frustrated with the #InfoSec attitude at LinkedIn. I got my account back, but since I was not able to figure out how it was taken over, I did the standard "new strong password" on LinkedIn, and change password on my email.

This morning, it was again hijacked.

I have managed to figure out how, since the issue was resolved first time after midnight, I was not "quite there" to look enough for how it was done, and "patch" that possibility.

For LinkedIn, checking how it was done and letting me know, would have been very simple, I could have patched the possibility instantly. It would be zero risk and no policy violation for LinkedIn to give me this info.

Not only that, but I am pretty sure this is not infrequent, and it does not take a lot to make it a lot harder to do an account takeover this way. It baffles me that it was that straight forward. (continued...)

@lordsplodge
Also on #LinkedIn a lot of people aren't being themselves, they're playing the role of representative for a company or other organisation. They express this exaggerated enthusiasm for shit that no sane person could ever care about.

But they seem to forget that they're putting this stuff out under their own name and with a little picture of themselves. "I'm really excited to learn about this new EU regulatory framework for sewage-pipe dimensions!!!"

Question: Is it okay to reach out to a girl I like in on ?
Top answer (from me): Yes it’s absolutely okay to reach out to a woman on LinkedIn if you are creepy, crazy, lack social skills, stalkerish, did I mention creepy? /s

So, yah. My #LinkedIn got hijacked, and apparently I work as a recruiter in the US now. They changed my current position to be this, but kept everything else on my page.

I wonder how the heck they got access to it. I have two emails from earlier today, one with a PIN to change password, one with a password successfully changed message.

Done from a location west of Oslo on a windows computer using chrome, that was definitely not me.

I have checked all access to email account,, there has not been anything suspicious there, it uses 2FA, and notifies me instantly if a login happens on a device that has not previously been used. Nothing.

Just seems like a bizarre thing to do. What in the world would someone gain by taking my profile and claiming I work for some recruiter in the US???
