I fancied self-hosting some sort of #fediverse platform but most of them looked very complex to install and maintain. GTS is simple and compact as it was never intended to support 100s or 1000s of users.
The documentation is *excellent* (especially for a FOSS project) too.
Shout out when you fancy dipping a toe in, though, there'll be plenty of folks willing to help out.

Tour, um mit dem Fahrrad die Godesberger Orgellandschaft zu erkunden, Musik zu genießen, sich den Fahrtwind um die Ohren wehen lassen: Sonntag, 17.8., an jeweils drei Kirchen gibt es Kurzkonzerte von 15 -20 Min Länge, Informationen zur Orgel und zum Teil auch Erfrischungen (Getränke…).

Den inofficiella loggan för FediversePrecis som våra inägg här dyker upp på Facebook och Instagram har de också delats till Mastodon sedan något år tillbaka. Nu har vi aktiverat tillägget som gör bloggen till en fullvärdig medlem i Fediverse, en del i det öppna sociala nätet. Förhoppningsvis skall allt fungera som det ska.

I read the post by @dansup@mastodon.social on https://mastodon.social/@dansup/114976028199958266 encouraging people to support @thisismissem@hachyderm.io and I felt inspired. I was especially inspired by the text in the "Supporter" category saying "Every little bit counts!".
Because it is true - even small contributions matter, and even though I know that Emilia cannot buy a lot of food for €5/month, it would matter as long as enough people supported her with a small amount.
To me "contribution" has always been a motivation for me. I contributed on StackOverflow (when that was a thing), I was a Microsoft MVP for a handful of years, I have contributed to various OSS projects and tried to help with translation of e.g., Friendica into Danish. But the truth is that if you want things to scale - submitting PRs, translating software or writing blog posts is not enough. We need to support people such that they can dedicate real time and effort in building great software. We need to put bread on their tables.
For the last couple of years I have started to spread a little bit of money around to various project. I support Wikipedia, Signal, pixelfed, NOYB and a few others. I took a look at my annual contributions and realised that it corresponded to roughly 0.7% of my disposable income (or my income times 0.007). To me, it is below the threshold of what I would even realise that I spent. It is roughly the amount I would pay if I went out with a friend, had a burger and a couple of beers. Given the value I get from using all of the great projects in the #fediverse and other open tooling, I think it is a reasonable amount to pay back - #YMMV, ofc.
0.007 has a nice ring to it - so by this I am starting what I have decided to call "the zero-zero-seven initiative". The purpose is to create awareness about financial contribution to the projects we use every day. The goal is to have more people contribute small amounts to projects - at a level that does not ruin people's economy. It is effectively applying "the Salami slicing tactics" to financial contributions. If enough people contribute small amounts - it will have a colossal impact.
Please help by spreading the word on this - and take a look at your own finances. Would you be able to spread 0.007 times your income to those great people that build the software we use every day? Or maybe just a bit less? Remember - free software" is not free to create. It takes time, dedication and effort, and we really need to support those liberating us from #bigtech
