Yeah, and like, I do appreciate the effort people like you do, and I have checked out your #PeerTube instance initially, but a lot of it though varied, sadly does not speak to a lot of my interests, personally. PeerTube low-key reminds me of SUPER early #Youtube in terms of topic breadth, quality, and general vibe. The #Fediverse at least from what I've seen caters to more older audiences (a lot of Millenial/Gen X programmers/tech nerds especially), and that makes it difficult to reach out to and expand to newer audiences that will inevitably inherit this tech.
I think these things would help:
- Pitching PeerTube to Youtubers as a backup/secondary platform, especially Youtubers who get censored a lot. (Youtubers who get struck for "child endangerment" when doing a video about a dangerous group, for example.) Stress the ability to pick up their account and leave if they don't like a particular instance and not having to start over.
- Easier onboarding that shows new users what an instance and its federated buddies have to offer and how this whole thing works. Because yeah, it can be confusing/demotivating.
- Interoperability, not having to make more accounts just to leave likes or subscribe would be fantastic.
- Huge push to mobile because the majority of Youtube viewers are on mobile. #Fedilab's PeerTube features leave a lot to be desired, and Framasoft's app still needs time in the oven.
I know a lot of these things are already in the works, but there's still a long way to go.
