The BBC podcast Tech Life on 26 Aug 2025 reports on continuing issues with Meta over Facebook and Instagram accounts being banned for no good reason, leaving some users without access to sometimes years of data including messages, pictures and above all, their communities and support networks. They report a growing trend since June this year of accounts being banned arbitrarily, sometimes with no reason given, others being accused of breaches to terms of use. Many users have found it nearly impossible to appeal these decisions as there is no human contact available or willing to help. Some have even resorted to begging BBC journalists to help them get their account back. Some have been re-instated but others have not.
It is becoming ever more important we promote the #fediverse, tell others about it and provide help, support and tooling to maintain our own #digitalsovereignity on line.

#Matrix.org ist in #UK gehostet und führt eine #Altersverifikation ein. Außerdem wurden gelöschte Emailadressen als Identifier "entlöscht" und sind Accounts wieder fest zugeordnet.
#EuropäischeAlternativen, die ohne auskommen gibt es z.B. hier:

Analog dem #Fediverse gebietet es sich ohnehin, Accounts #dezentral von Matrix.org zu erstellen.
Funktionieren beide, auch mit Cross-Sync und Multiaccount-Apps wie #Fluffychat (Android, Linux).

@samsteiner das sehe ich anders. Das ist gerade das Gute, dass es diese #Algorithmen im #Fediverse 
nicht gibt und ich selber (über abonnierte Profile und Hashtags) darüber entscheide, was ich sehen möchte und nicht andere darüber entscheiden, was sie meinen, was ich sehen sollte. Dass das diejenigen stört, die anderen ihre Beiträge aufzwingen wollen, kann ich zwar verstehen und das tut mir leid, aber nicht weh und ich verstehe dann auch, wenn diejenigen sich vom Fediverse gefrustet abwenden, weil sie meinen, Sie bekommen hier keine #Follower.
