Will the #Fediverse succeed if some group or person with a more business-oriented mindset comes into play? I remember how excited I was as a teenager when I first started using #Linux, with its core ideas, but only geeks really got into it.
The game has changed a lot since #Ubuntu was released more than twenty years ago by #Canonical, led by Mark Shuttleworth. Maybe the Fediverse and all its players, initiatives usually led by geeks, are in a similar state to Linux before Ubuntu.
I'm not saying the big tech social media will disappear or stop being used as the main form of communication by most people. This didn't happen when it comes to the adoption of Windows and Mac OS, either.
But we are not there yet. The Fediverse initiative is still in its infancy, and it's hard to see it as the same reason why people like me were so excited about open knowledge in our twenties or even earlier.

I have looked over my account, and well this #disabled man existing in #poverty has no means to take care of himself, it sure would be nice if today everyone on the #fediverse could help me raise at the least $500 of my current need of $3,978, I am begging for help so that I can live, food, rent, clothing, personal hygiene ect, Every dollar matters. I was chatting with a business owner who had emailed me about a collection I’d donated to the local university, we got talking again about that donation, a late artist’s portfolio of drawings and such that I’d once owned, then I mentioned another artist’s work I’d gifted to someone else, and he smiled and said, “You like to give art away.”
I stumbled a bit at that, he said the collection I’d donated would probably have sold for quite a bit, I like to sell my own work, which has been acquired by collectors in different countries, but I’ve also given pieces away, I just didn’t want someone else’s work, from an earlier generation than mine, to be broken up or forgotten, (still, I’d love to sell some of what’s in my own archive!)
Then he said, “Some things are more important than money,” true, and yet, the struggling artist part, also true! 😅

You can even migrate your existing #ATmosphere account to #Wafrn 's PDS and unify it with your Wafrn #Fediverse account. Q: Do they call it skeets? A: No. Just "post" or "content". The Mastodon® software used to call it "toot" but dropped it in 2020, IIRC. You can call it whatever you want. 😉
