My cat Cherry — my one and only companion — passed away after a short, cruel illness. The veterinarians told me her time was limited; I tried every treatment I could find and spent those last days doing everything to keep her comfortable. I checked on her constantly and made her my priority, so losing her feels like losing a piece of my home. I’m heartbroken. It’s hard to explain how strange it feels to look at the toys, the bed, the food bowls and know they won’t be used again.
On top of that, I recently quit the only job I’d had at that company and I’m now between jobs. It’s been a lot to hold at once — grief, the practical stress of being unemployed, and the small, quiet reminders of Cherry all around me. I’m trying to keep going: I’ll be back on Mastodon and plan to keep posting, but I probably won’t be my usual self for a little while.
If you’ve been through pet loss, I would really appreciate your company and any advice you can share. Things that would help me right now:
1. Emotional support: messages, memories, or stories. If you had a pet, I’d love to hear one little thing you remember about them — it helps to know I’m not alone.
2, Practical ideas: low-cost ways to memorialize a pet, coping strategies for the first few weeks, or rituals that helped you heal.
3. Job leads or freelance opportunities: I’m looking for anything to get me through this period, even short-term gigs. If you know of openings or can point me in a direction, please DM me.
4. Community boosts: I’ll be posting on Mastodon — if you can spare a boost or a follow, it would mean a lot while I try to rebuild a routine.
I also want to offer support back. If you’re grieving something — a pet, a relationship, a job — say so here. We can swap small comforts, practical tips, or just be people who check in on each other. Little acts (a message, a link, a warm memory) go a long way.
Thank you for reading and for any kindness you can spare. Cherry was loved and she made my life better. I’ll keep sharing here as I work through this, and I’m grateful for any help, memories, or leads you can offer. ❤️
