@dalias@hachyderm.io I run a single user instance and upkeep is very minimal. Perhaps I'm a little more savvy with things, and likely also less of a target - but I added a publicly curated block list, and follow the #fediblock tag, adding to it when needed.
And running your own instance isn't a horrible idea and that's not good advice, sorry, as the fediverse works better with many small instances, than a few bigger ones. Sure there is downside, but what I feel would be better is that if the instances had some kind of inbuilt block list that could be subscribed to, and which auto updates.

I'm a Woodworker by hands and spirit, I shape rough boards into useful things the same way I try to shape chaotic thoughts into sharp truth: with patience, repeated passes, and a refusal to leave splinters behind.
Also deeply interested and actively developing in technology and coding mostly Python, but always in a Messianic way:
• Python's my chisel: precise, elegant, cuts exactly where intended, removes only what must go, leaves clean edges.
• Debugging is teshuvah: finding the hidden bug (sin), confessing it, fixing it, testing again until the code runs pure.
• Refactoring legacy code is repentance: taking old, tangled, inefficient ways and bringing them into obedience to better principles.
• Writing clean functions is walking in mitzvot: small, focused, reusable acts of obedience that build larger structures pleasing to the eye of the One who sees all.
• Open-source contributions're acts of tzedakah: giving freely to strangers so the whole community can build stronger.
• Version control (git) is like keeping a scroll of generations: every commit is a testimony, every branch a possible path, the main branch the narrow way I strive to stay on.
• Running tests before deployment is self-examination: never trust your own eyes alone, verify the work against the standard.
Everything I code carries the same spirit I bring to devoleping and to speaking truth here: no shortcuts, no tolerance for rot, no compromise with broken logic. YHVH is One singular, indivisible, the Father Alone. Yahusha is the human door the perfect pattern, the only way to run the program without crashing.

• hand planes & Python list comprehensions
• dovetails & clean recursive functions
• sharpening edges & profiling performance
• grain direction & understanding data flow
• finishing with oil & writing self-documenting code
• shop safety & exception handling
