#Facebook sucks but people we care about use it. They might not quit today.

So today is a good day for you to help them think about privacy settings on Facebook. The FB unified privacy checkup screen (see first image) has a thematically organized way of going through the menus which are otherwise obtuse and cumbersome.

Alongside the privacy checkup, you can use the "View As" feature on your Facebook profile page to see how you look to anybody out there, and to test any changes you make with the privacy tools to see if they've done what you expected (see second image).

Some highlights of the tools available:

Who Can See What You Share - the audience menu has a button you can hit to change all public posts to Friends only

How People Can Find You - you can turn off people searching for you with an email address, especially if you originally signed up with a school or work email; also you can make your profile less visible to Google and other search engines

Your Data Settings - you've probably given wide permission to a lot of apps over the years to access your account, you might change those now

Keep Your Account Secure - if your account has ever been hijacked or you're concerned about it, you can change your password and set up two-factor authentication

Your Ad Preferences - Facebook sells you to advertisers. Do you want those advertisers to know your job title, your significant others, etc.? Do you want anything you've liked to be visible to advertisers or others?

My Facebook friend list just went down to 30. That's the lowest it's been in years. I'm OK with it.

I think it's partly political, but it may be that some got tired of the shit posting. It's up to the recipient to throttle what they see using any method they choose. I do it.

For me, it doesn't damage or change the real feelings. It can but usually doesn't.

Unfollow, unfriend, mute, block. Whatever it takes.

I have been in the since 2022. I hate quit in 2017 after Zuckerberg elected the first time, and when the druggie Nazi purchased it. I had a by accident of signing up for many years ago to see one art performance. All closed!

Not deactivated. Deleted.

But more than any, I am proud of never having paid for or had cable TV, except a brief few years of using Cox for Internet only. Cut that cord! You can!

Meta unveils new smart glasses with a display and wristband controller

image via techcrunch.com

Meta on Wednesday unveiled a new pair of Ray-Ban branded smart glasses with a built-in display for apps, alerts, and directions on the right lens. The smart glasses are controlled by a wristband that picks up on subtle hand gestures, called Meta Neural Band, the same one it unveiled at last year’s Connect as part of its Orion demo.
