Mastodon has reminded me of how social media can be really useful before it turns into a cesspool. Remember when Facebook was like that 10-15 years ago? I used to check my stats and post to Facebook, and it would instantly get me a ton of traffic.

I'm selling a laptop on Facebook Merketplace.
For anyone who isn't aware what this is, it's a highly local informal type of car boot (trunk, in the USA???) sale where you list what's being sold and agree to either have someone turn up at your house to see/buy it, or sometimes, arrange to meet half-way for payment.
Fucking hell.
Within five minutes of listing this item, I've had all sorts of people from Nigeria, Timbuktu, Scotland, Birmingham,, places absolutely nowhere near to where I live.
They're all scams, of course. I say scam because half the people are looking to resell items for a profit. This isn't why I'm selling this item either.
Here's one such exchange:
"Is your Mac in good order?" was this person's opening question, not even "hello, how are you?" :)
My response: "Yes, and it's important to ensure a good coat is worn in the rain. I recommend something by Berghaus, although other brands are available. Remember, not all zip linings are waterproof either, so bear this in mind."
Alas, the only other response I got was: "You use your Mac in the rain?"
Sigh.
I can tell this is going to be fun!
